A brief history
Holloway Removals begins as a one-man band (literally!), with Andy Holloway moving speakers, drum kits and other band equipment around Bondi in a small van.
The sole trader now has a company name, ‘Andy the Guy With a Van’, so customers knew what they were getting. Andy soon became the go-to guy for a vintage furniture dealer in Sydney’s East.
An apartment in Bondi Junction was the heart of the growing empire, with Andy’s friend Lydia hitting the phones. With eight trucks and a couple of rentals, the search was on for a new name as Andy the Guy With a Van no longer cut the mustard.
The Storage piece of the jigsaw was added when we rented office space in Bourke St, Zetland, with some warehouse space attached. You’ve guessed it; we grew out of that space very quickly when our work with Aspect Furniture went nuts.
A massive year for Andy and the business as Orlando Holloway was born (and got a seat on the board the second he popped out). The company also celebrated turning over its first million!
A massive milestone as we took over our very first warehouse in the Holloway name in Perry Street Matraville. At 1,000sqm plus office, we knew we’d have to go some to fill this place. But, you guessed it, we were soon looking for more space!
We love the logo that Jen Wetherspoon created for us with the early tagline of ‘All the way with Holloway’. Some of the team felt it was too colourful for their shirts, so we ended up with just the blue lines, which remain the same today.
The business doubled in 2015, and operations and sales support teams were recruited to keep up with demand. Mobile self-storage services were added to the mix, and a second warehouse was secured in O’Dea Ave, Waterloo.
The Waterloo warehouse was soon filled, so we took on another warehouse in Mitchell Street, Erskineville. Surely three warehouses across Sydney would be enough storage…
Andy learned a lot as a leader over the years but was always conscious of keeping the unique Holloway culture alive. The vibe wobbled a bit as the business grew, but Andy created a culture and customer experience division to keep clients and the team front of mind.
The warehouse count hits four, and Holloway rocks the removals world with an April Fools campaign that announces a business name change to Big Dog Removals. The industry laughs, but Andy’s mum is not happy!
With warehouses scattered all over Sydney, we decided to consolidate into a 7,000 square metres MEGASITE in Wolli Creek, which includes 1,400 storage modules and an office space better than home!
The good people of Melbourne now get to move the right way, as Holloway sees out the year by taking over Metro Movers. Twelve trucks, a 3,000sqm warehouse and a 4,000sqm yard all join the family.
We’re constantly looking for ways to help you move the right way. What’s next? An app that will change the face of relocations. Watch this (storage) space…

Holloway were amazing - I would definitely recommend them for any move, no matter how big or small. Fantastic service from the quote right through to the final wrap-up of delivery.
